Lindau Island is located near the meeting point of the Austrian, German and Swiss borders on the northen eastern banks of Lake Constance and is nestled on the lake in front of Austria's Pfänder mountain.

Lindau Island is popular with sightseers and holidaymakers for its quaint centre and picturesque location on Lake Constance.

The Nobel Laureate Meetings at the adjacent Lindau town began in 1951 and bring many Nobel Prize laureates to Lindau each year.

Historically it is the trading route from Nuremberg in Germany en route to Italy and it passed through Lindau.

Fishing has also played a big role in the economy of the town and in the 19th century it was an important location for the textile industry.

Tourism, including restaurants and accommodation, and industrial production are the main industries in this contemporary town. Lindau has a very low unemployment rate, likely to be the result of a diverse economy and proximity to the Alpine Rhine Valley.

The island is popular with tourists and daytrippers alike from all over the area and is a hotspot for property as everyone would like to enjoy the lakeside views across to Austria, Switzerland, superb Alpine mountain vistas and the convenient strolls on the lakeside footpaths.

Lindau hosts a number of festivals and events, usually in summer (between May and August) including the aforementioned Nobel Laureate Meetings, its annual Sailing Regatta, the Lindau Kinderfest, and like many German towns and cities it enjoys an Oktoberfest
to celebrate the fruits of harvest time. There are also live music festivals throughout the summer months in the public areas.

Lindau produces a number of local wines and beverages, there are a number of localities that produce wines (Rädlewirtschaften) from local vineyards and Schnapps made by local farmers.

Visitors to the island by the numerous lake vessels and excursions are met by the famous Lion and Lighthouse which staddle the harbour entrance on both sides to this beautiful Alpine destination.
