Michael was a late starter in playing and honing his musical skills. He was 15 when he started playing the Alto Sax. Determined that he had innate talent he began studying saxophone and piano privately at the Royal Conservatory of Toronto.
He also studied with several private teachers and by the time he was 20 he started touring with different bands across his native Canada.
His major influences where early Bop players e.g. Charlie Parker, Cannonball Adderley, Phil Woods, but most influential of all was the iconic John Coltrane.
Later he became more interested in today's contemporary players such as David Sanborn, Grover Washington Jr and Michael Brecker to name a just a few.
Michael's favourite musical styles were R&B in the style of James Brown funk bands such as Earth, Wind & Fire and Tower of Power.
As a saxophonist it was easy to have strong Jazz influences and the combination of all of his experience created his honed and distinctive sound and style which has become uniquely his own, all of which make him a standout 'Original'.
" I have a passion for playing and writing music in particular for the saxophone, my main instrument is the Tenor Saxophone, however I also play Alto and Soprano saxes, Flute and Piano. I have been involved in countless studio sessions over the past 35 years and many of the recordings have been heard, and continue to be heard all over the world.
