Vaduz - is the capital of Liechtenstein and also the seat of the national parliament. The city (known as such as it has a cathedral) is located along the Rhine River and has circa 5,700 residents.

The most prominent landmark in Vaduz is Vaduz Castle, perched on the side of a mountain in the middle of the city. It is home to the reigning Prince of Liechtenstein and the Liechtenstein Princely Family.

The city's distinctive architecture is also displayed in landmarks such as the Cathedral of St. Florin, the Government House, the City Hall, the National Art Gallery and the National Museum.

Although Vaduz is the best-known city in the principality internationally, but not the largest, neighbouring Schaan has a larger population.

The city is situated along the River Rhine which flows from the Swiss mountains to Lake Constance in Bregenz. ( see the Vaduz Gallery )

Vaduz has a lively tourist industry, despite being one of the very few capital cities in the world without an airport, the nearest major airport is in Zurich, Switzerland, circa 120 km (75 mi) away.

Vaduz has no railway station as such and is not directly served by a railway line. Schaan-Vaduz is one of the four train stations serving Liechtenstein.  It is located in the town of Schaan, a couple of kilometres north of Vaduz.

The city is surrounded by huge towering mountains and is a popular ski resort in winter, and a walking and cycling destination all year round. Visitors can explore the area along the riverbank of the River Rhine on a hard surface pathway.

Banking is a huge part of the economy and close ties to Switzerland mean that it is sometimes difficult to see, or hear any delineation between the two countries as the Swiss Franc currency is also used in Liechtenstein.

Like Switzerland the standard of living is high which is reflected in expensive real estate and good payrates. The country is also meticulous and clean like its near neighbour and the inhabitants are justly proud of this small Alpine country.

The city is home to many foreigners, in fact 42% of the population in Vaduz are from outside of the country.

Next Time discovering our 4 Land's Region
- Rorschach - A lakeside town which lies on the south shores of Lake Constance and is the home of many lake vessels and marinas.
